Marsha and Demetrio (Jerry) Jaremenko have owned Kries Jeweler in Flemington since 1985 purchasing it from William Kries who started the business in December 1946.
Jerry has a long tenure in the jewelry business. Jerry was born in Brasil and as a young child he spent many hours learning from his father, Dmytro, who was a true craftsman in the jewelry trade. His father owned Fritts Jewelers in Somerville, and Jerry went to work there in 1980, after graduating from college and working as a newspaper photographer for five years. He and his sister eventually bought their father's business, but he sold but his share on coming to Flemington. He learned of the Kries store availability from a jewelry salesman and within about three months of their first meeting they struck a deal.
Marsha grew up in Brooklyn, NY, graduated from Brooklyn College, and worked many years as an accountant. She handles all of the accounting functions for the business and together they make a great team. They've raised three wonderful children and are very proud to talk about them and their accomplishments.
In 1994 Marsha & Jerry bought the building at 24 Main Street just down the street from the space previously rented and went through a substantial renovation dividing the space into two retail stores and maintaining the apartment on the second floor. They then proceeded in purchasing a street clock which was always a dream of Jerry's. As you enter the store you get a warm welcoming feeling looking at pictures on the walls that Jerry has taken through the years of family, pets, and adventures.
Marsha & Jerry strive to provide great service in a friendly atmosphere and as a result have created special relationships with their customers.
